The Grantor Management System automates grants processing from application to award, monitoring and closeout.

The Department of Agriculture has automated its grants programs to handle the entire process from application to award, monitoring and closeout. The Grantor Management System will reduce the need for manual data entry, automating review and approval processes and ensuring all grants meet regulatory and compliance requirements.

The system was built by Accenture Federal Services as part of the USDA’s Financial Management Modernization Initiative.  FMMI provides real-time transaction capability and access for more than 6,000 users across the department’s 29 agencies and staff offices.

The Grantor Management System already supports the Foreign Agriculture Service and the Food and Nutrition Service, and the National Resources Conservation Service and Agricultural Marketing Services will come online later this year. Through a private cloud, the system will track more than $80 billion in grants once all programs are live. It will also provide the opportunity for other agencies to join the program in the future.

The implementation of the Grantor Management System has already reduced payment processing from more than six weeks down to nearly one week, opened up data showing the exact amount of grants reserved, committed and spent and allowed more than 1,000 users across four agencies to work on a single platform.

The program also plans to provide a self-service grantee portal to enhance customer service.
